A quiet three games to start the week off but it was a weird day in the NBA with a ton of Woj bombs dropping left and right. We have the Mike Dunleavy not wanting to be a part of the Hawks and then after a talk with Coach Bud, he feels good about joining them now. We have news that Paul Millsap is seemingly not being shopped anymore. We had former number one pick, Anthony Bennett being waived by the worst team in the NBA. He’s done. We also had some injury news to Anthony Davis, Zach LaVine, Dwyane Wade and Andrew Bogut. Hopefully they’re all fine. Lastly, we have some news on Derrick Rose going AWOL. Let’s get to tonight’s games.

Pelicans 110 – Knicks 96

The Pelicans have snapped their three-game losing streak with a win in MSG. It was a weird one as some of the Knicks didn’t show up literally and figuratively in this one. Anthony Davis had another monstrous game with 40 points, 18 boards, three blocks and a triple on 14-of-22 shooting and 11-of-12 from the line in 29 minutes! Considering that he did all this damage in the first three quarters, it’s a shame that he couldn’t put up 50 and 20. He was pushed from behind by Kyle O’Quinn while he was going on a fast break and flew to the stands injuring his hip. He didn’t return to the game and X-rays were negative. Davis is pretty durable this season with all these nagging injuries and the Pels don’t play until Thursday so he has a lot of time to rest up. Buddy Hield added 11-4-3 with three treys and three steals. It’s Buddy’s fourth consecutive game with at least three triples and the steals were a surprise as they were his season-high. He has been good, returning top-65 in the last week and top-60 in the last two weeks.

Derrick Rose went AWOL tonight and nobody could get in touch and knew where he was. It’s recently reported that he got in touch with team officials and his reason for his absence was some family business. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt but I’m guessing he’s a bit mad of being benched the entire fourth quarter against the Bucks but that’s just my take. Brandon Jennings started in his place and was the only player to show up this game. He finished with 20-5-4 with four triples and two steals. I’m guessing Rose will be suspended by the team for the next game because of his absence, so Jennings may have one more game in value if you are desperate for his production. Carmelo Anthony had 18 points and six boards in 26 minutes. He was ejected with two technicals fouls, all for arguing with the referee. Kyle O’Quinn played 13 minutes and was ejected for that shove on AD. Kristaps Porzingis usually plays well with Rose out of the picture but had a dud, scoring nine points and two blocks on 3-of-13 shooting. The Knicks as a team is clearly frustrated and things need to change there.

Mavericks 92 – Timberwolves 101

The Timberpups held off a comeback in the fourth and closed a game out! This is news every time they managed to do this. Karl-Anthony Towns finally had an efficient night shooting the ball, going 15-of-19 from the field while adding 34-11-4, three blocks, two treys and a steal. He didn’t shoot above 45% in his four previous games and really wrecked your team’s field goal percentage but it’s good to see him take advantage of the Mavericks weak interior defense by scoring 20 of his 34 points in the first quarter. Ricky Rubio had his best of the season with 13 points, 15 assists and five steals in 30 minutes of play. The last person to have 15+ assists and 5+ steals was Chris Paul on March of 2016. He’s returning decent value in the last week and is a top-55 player in that span. Zach LaVine came out of the game with a hip contusion. He finished with 5-6-5 in 29 minutes. It was an off night for him and the injury just made it worse. There’s no update after the game so keep an eye out tomorrow.

The Mavericks are now on a three game losing streak but the positive news is both Harrison Barnes and Dirk Nowitzki played well. Barnes had 30 points with two boards, an assist and four triples. The boards and assists numbers are pretty disappointing but the four triples are a season high for him. He didn’t attempt a single free throw tonight so that’s pretty weird. He’s been really good lately though, a top-25 player in the last two weeks. Dirk had a season-high 26 points while adding five boards, four assists and four triples. He found the fountain of youth tonight and reminded why he’s one of the greatest at what he does. He played 31 minutes, which was the highest since opening night. He’s a DNP-rest waiting to happen but games like these reminds you of why you’re still holding onto him. Andrew Bogut left the game with a hamstring injury. He finished with two points and four boards in 18 minutes. He didn’t really have much fantasy value though. If he misses any time, Salah Mejri and Dwight Powell will share minutes again but Dirk will also play some center occasionally. Powell has the higher upside but he’s not getting consistent minutes to be recommended an add.

Thunder 109 – Bulls 94

Three players with 20 or more points for the Thunder! What a balanced effort and it brings them a victory. Russell Westbrook continues to do everything for the Thunder with 21-9-14 with a triple and a steal. He only played in 34 minutes in this one as the Thunder didn’t really need Brodie to play heavy minutes. He was one rebound shy from a triple-double and he clearly had the opportunity to hunt for his rebound but instead he gave it up to Steven Adams. He’s not a stat padder. If he was, he would’ve stole that rebound off Adams. Meanwhile, Adams had 22 points and five boards on 11-of-14 shooting. Adams’ value has been super high, thanks to his super efficient field goal percentage. He’s a top-15 player in the last week because of his 70.0 percent field goal and 88.9 percent from the line. The blocks are slowly increasing too and if he can consistently keep the blocks up, he’s a top-50 player for the rest of the season. Enes Kanter played 28 minutes tonight and it’s the most he played since December 27th. He finished with 20 points and 11 boards on 9-of-11 shooting. Super efficient shooting by Stache Bros tonight.

Jimmy Butler torched owners last week and I was one of the lucky few who got to match up against him. Which makes me salty because he had an off night to start the week and is due to miss the next game because of illness. He played 29 minutes and checked himself out and got sent home. He finished with a single point, two boards and seven assists on 0-of-6 shooting. Why couldn’t I play Buckets this week? Dwyane Wade had a scare when he collied with Nikola Mirotic and was holding the back of his neck. He was okay and was able to return to lead the Bulls with 22-4-6 with two triples. He’s due for a rest tomorrow as well when they have five games in seven days. Cristiano Felicio might be a good handcuff with Robin Lopez right now. With the Bulls having four more games, he might be a good streamer for some rebounds and positive field goal contribution. He finished with 11 points, 11 boards and three steals in 24 minutes. Some of those opportunities came from garbage time but Robin Lopez is trending down and especially so after tonight’s dud. Lopez had three points, four boards and a block on 1-of-7 shooting. He’s increasingly hard to own but i think he’s still a hold in 12-team leagues.
